About Badger Hewn
Hi, I’m Rob—the guy behind Badger Hewn.
Woodworking has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up in Wisconsin, I spent time in the shop with my dad while he built toys and other small projects for us. My favorites were the wooden construction toys with rope pulleys that operated the buckets. Those are some of my earliest memories of seeing a simple piece of wood turned into something special.
That feeling has stayed with me. I’ve always enjoyed working with my hands, but what I love most is taking raw lumber and turning it into something beautiful—something another family can use, enjoy, and eventually pass down.
The name Badger Hewn is a nod to where I came from. During my 21 years in the Army, your hometown and your roots were always a part of who you were and something you represented with pride. I wanted the business name to carry a piece of Wisconsin with me while also standing apart from the crowd.
As I transition from the Army into running my own business, one of my biggest challenges has been learning to slow down. After more than two decades of always moving toward the next mission, woodworking gives me a chance to be patient, focus on the details, and build something the right way. I still carry the integrity, dedication, and hard work the Army instilled in me into every project.
Service is a big part of our family. I’m a third-generation veteran, and my wife is a second-generation service member who is still currently serving. She has been incredibly supportive as I work to get Badger Hewn off the ground. Our daughter also loves being in the shop with me, building things and spending time together. At the end of the day, family is the most important thing in my life—and it’s a big part of why I’m building this business.
One of the projects that means the most to me was a retirement chest I made for MSG Winchell. I designed it to represent his entire military career. Seeing the joy on his face when he received it reminded me that the best pieces aren’t just furniture or gifts—they hold someone’s story.
That is what I want Badger Hewn to be known for: custom furniture that solves a need, brings joy into your home, and lasts long enough to become part of your family’s story.
Thanks for following along and supporting the family behind Badger Hewn. If you have an idea for a custom piece that your family can enjoy for generations, reach out. I’d love to hear your story and help bring it to life.
