Badger Hewn Cosmetic Standards & Order Policy
Before You Place Your Order
At Badger Hewn, we build custom furniture with care, attention to detail, and respect for the natural character of wood. Every piece has its own grain, color, and personality—qualities that make your furniture uniquely yours.

Please review the following standards before placing an order. By placing your order, you acknowledge and accept these standards and the policies below.
Natural Wood Characteristics
Solid wood naturally varies in grain, color, and texture. Depending on the species and design you select, your furniture may include knots, mineral streaks, small checks, and other natural characteristics.

These features are part of the material’s character. Their presence and placement will differ from one piece to another, including pieces within the same dining set.

Natural variation does not excuse poor workmanship. Your furniture should meet the agreed design and function as intended.
Stain, Paint & Color Variations
We use the wood species and finish color selected for your order. However, individual boards absorb stain differently, so some variation in color is expected—even within a single tabletop.

Photos, screens, lighting, and existing finishes can also affect how a color appears. Product photos and finish samples provide a reference, but we cannot guarantee an exact match to a photograph, previous project, or another piece of furniture.

Normal variations in wood grain and finish color are not considered defects and do not qualify for refinishing or replacement.
Custom Color Coordination
If you would like your furniture to coordinate with existing cabinets, flooring, or furniture, please discuss this with us before ordering. A physical sample is the most useful reference; photographs alone cannot reliably establish a color match.

Any custom color work, samples, and related costs must be agreed upon before finishing begins. We can work toward a complementary appearance, but an exact match cannot be guaranteed across different woods, materials, or aged finishes.
Surface Texture & Rustic Details
Smooth and rustic surfaces have different appearances and textures. Sanding, distressing, and other surface treatments can also change how wood accepts stain.
When rustic details are part of your selected design, knots, textured areas, tool marks, and distressing may vary in placement and intensity. Reference photos illustrate the overall style rather than an exact pattern that can be duplicated.
Please discuss your preferred surface texture with us before placing your order.
Handcrafted Details & Dimensions
Handcrafted furniture may show subtle variations in shaping, grain alignment, joinery, and finish texture. Visible seams between joined boards can also be a normal part of solid wood construction.

We build to the dimensions agreed upon for your project. If your furniture must fit a specific opening, clearance, or tight space, please tell us before ordering so we can establish the necessary measurements and tolerances.
Seasonal Wood Movement
Solid wood responds to changes in humidity and temperature by expanding and contracting. Minor seasonal movement and small surface checks can occur.
Keep your furniture in a stable indoor environment unless it was specifically designed for outdoor use. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct heat, standing water, and extreme humidity changes. If you notice movement that affects stability, function, or a joint’s integrity, contact us so we can assess it.
Everyday Use & Finish Care
A protective finish helps your furniture withstand everyday use, but no finish is scratchproof or damageproof. Scratches, dents, heat marks, water damage, and wear can occur over time.

Use coasters, placemats, and protective pads as needed. Wipe up spills promptly, avoid placing hot items directly on the surface, and follow the care instructions provided with your furniture.

Damage from regular wear, misuse, or improper care is not considered a workmanship defect.
Lead Times
The lead time provided with your order is an estimate. Material availability, finishing conditions, project complexity, and production schedules may affect completion.

We will communicate significant changes and make every reasonable effort to meet the estimated timeframe. A specific completion or delivery date is guaranteed only if expressly agreed to in writing.

If you need your furniture for a holiday, event, or other deadline, please discuss that date with us before ordering.
